A new wave of Venezuelan migrants to Colombia and other countries in the region could reach 5.5 million before the end of the year, according to Carlos Valero, a deputy and member of the Foreign Policy Commission of the AN.

He stressed that today and despite the pandemic, many Venezuelans move on foot or hitchhiking from different regions of the country towards the border, fleeing the economic and social crisis that exists in Venezuela.

"We remind these Venezuelans that the economic, health and service conditions are not in place to undertake this journey, but we understand their suffering and despair," he said.

The parliamentarian also denounced the robberies and mistreatment that migrants are suffering by the police and military and assured that they took the corresponding complaints to the competent authorities, within the National Assembly, as well as international organizations. (google translate)
