Ford Denies Moscow Dominates East Europe
President Ford said last night in his debate with Jimmy Carter that there was no Soviet domination of Eastern Europe and there never will be under a Ford Administration. His statement, which seemed to ignore the long‐standing Soviet control of most countries in Eastern Europe. specifically said that Yugoslavia, Rumania and Poland were independent and autonomous.
Yugoslavia is generally regarded as free of Soviet domination, while Rumania has been independent to a lesser extent. But Poland has been careful not to challenge any Soviet foreign policy.
His contention that there was no Soviet domination of Eastern Europe brought an instant response by Mr. Carter: I would like to see Mr. Ford convince the Polish‐Americans and the Czech‐Americans and the HungarianAmericans in this country that those countries don't live under the domination and supervision of the Soviet Union behind the Iron Curtain.
You beat me by 20 seconds.
Carter should be asked to denounce Biden’s statement. Won’t happen tho’.
