In late June, two cases of coronavirus were confirmed in New Zealand.
When many countries are registering thousands of cases a day, two seems little to worry about.
But until that point, New Zealand had gone 24 days without a single case, so these - linked to quarantine breaches - were enough to lead to the resignation of the health minister.
So what was the strategy behind New Zealand's Covid-19 success?
When did New Zealand bring in border closures? On 2 February, a man in the Philippines became the first person outside China to die of Covid-19.
At this point, there were no reported cases in New Zealand, but the next day, the country began banning entry to any foreigner coming from or via China. Any New Zealander returning from China had to isolate for 14 days.
As the virus spread globally, a flight ban was also extended to Iran - the origin of New Zealand's first case - and restrictions placed on anyone arriving from South Korea, northern Italy, or who was showing symptoms.
As of midnight on 16 March, everybody - including New Zealanders - had to go into self-isolation on arrival in the country, unless they were coming from the largely unaffected Pacific island nations.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said these were the strictest regulations in the world, for which she would "make no apologies".
Then, a few days later, Ms Ardern took the unprecedented step of closing the borders entirely to almost all non-citizens or residents.
"Doing this early on with only over a few thousand cases [worldwide] at the time allowed them to basically stop the influx and stop the community transmission," Prof Martin Berka, an economist at the country's Massey University, told the BBC.

There will be numerous vaccines, very soon.
China and Russia are already doing limited vaccinations already, and America’s much mure involved process of approval is almost complete.
Very soon, the treatments will start, everywhere.
It is my belief that there were two main strains of the virus, the Asian strain and the European one. The west generally had to deal with the European one, and it is the worst of the two. NZ got the Asian strain, plus, its an island. Check it out, Hawaii did pretty darned good too.
Old article, now every day they are having new cases and death.
Maybe...
Or maybe they didnt pay hospitals $160,000 per covid case to bump up their covid death toll?
Talk to somebody from NZ. Covid is there but they do not allow it to be reported.

Bad hobbits are emu'in!
Having spent some time there...I can say that there is maybe five urban centers around the country, and if you had Covid-19...you’d have a better chance of getting/passing it in Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch, Queenstown and Tauranga. Beyond that...man, the rest of the country is awful rural, and you might only meet up with more than five people in an entire day.
If they did the infection rate by cities (population)...wouldn’t surprise me if Auckland got 50-percent of all infections for the Feb to Jul period. Other factor, as you get out of the urban areas...lot of folks are in great health (lean, few overweight folks) and I would imagine the death rate in rural areas would be lesser.
Three months ago, they had this sudden surge out of nowhere in the Auckland area...which all led back to the same place....meat processing plant. It was the same issue that we had in Germany back in July. Refrigeration filter system wasn’t hooked up to function.
There’s more to the story, but I don’t think the leadership wants to open it up and talk about it.
It’s an island nation that restricted travel from the outside world. Easy.
If the rest of the world had handled this covid mania the way Sweden did, this whole pandemic would have been a non-starter non-issue before anybody had ever heard of it.
Exactly
Sweden is the Ticket
in my mind too.
160k EACH?
What’s This?
My son was just in Ireland for work. They increased their lock downs again. While in the Current stage, people can not cross into the next county. There are road blocks to ensure they dont. .
All these places a Freeper could move to are more socialist than even JBidens radical America.
