Defying danger, U.S. guided-missile destroyer, USS Barry (DDG 52), conducted a routine transit through the waterway separating China from Taiwan on Wednesday, a move which has aggrieved Beijing.
The incident occurred at a time when Chinese President Xi Jinping has asked the naval soldiers to get ready for war. While inspecting the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy Marine Corps in Chaozhou, Xi Jinping told the soldiers to get ready for fighting under multidimensional conditions.
"The Arleigh-Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Barry (DDG 52) conducted a routine Taiwan Strait transit Oct. 14 (local time) in accordance with international law. The ship's transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the U.S. commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific," according to a statement by America's Navy Press release.
"The U.S. Navy will continue to fly, sail and operate anywhere international law allows," it added.
Reacting to the move, China said that Washington was seriously undermining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, Reuters reported.
The spokesman for Chinas eastern theatre command, Zhang Chunhui, said in a statement that USS Barry was followed and monitored by the Chinese military.
The spokesman also stated that the country would resolutely defend its territorial integrity and maintain peace and stability in the region. Zhang also warned the U.S. to stop its actions in the Taiwan Strait.
China claims Taiwan as a part of its domain in the "one country, two systems" concept. However, the island nation isn't agreeable and operates with de-facto sovereignty.
Since the end of a civil war in China in 1949, Taiwan has been governed separately. The island also has its own currency and flag, however, the United Nations has not recognised it as an independent nation.
The U.S. remains an ally to Taiwan and its chief arms supplier.

Yeah go to war with the country you need for us to buy your crap from. Please do it!
Wal-Fart is sweating bullets.
We can call it a successful run as they did not collide with another ship.
Have the entire Pacific fleet sail through the Formosa straight with a strategic air wing of bombers flying overhead. Then have all the sailors moon China as they pass.
Thereby giving every US or Allied Sigint and Elint collector in the theater of operations a hugh woody.
We do it because we can, and nobody can do anything about it.
Of course. China has 1.4 billion people while Taiwan has a mere 24 million.
“We do it because we can, and nobody can do anything about it.” Small correction, nobody DARES do anything about it. The Communists have the means to make this transit very difficult. They just don’t dare to do anything about it.
As President Trump correctly assessed many years ago, they need us far more than we need them.
Xi has seriously overplayed his hand. And, unlike the Deep State pansies, Trump is not backing off and giving them a Face Saving backdoor. Trump is pressing the issue in their face. This tactic upsets our State Dept. pansies to no end. A twofer.
It’s not the first time we’ve done this.
The real comparison is when you put US forces on the chart.
Taiwan’s not spending enough on its own defense.
The chart claims Taiwan has 2 subs. It actually has 4.
Its not their waterway.
“They just dont dare to do anything about it.”
That is because they realize as they game out all the scenarios, that after the first shot is fired they are outclassed and overwhelmed at every step of the escalation ladder.
And the first volley never comes...
That could really use some added stats:
- Total pop
- Number of other countries we’ve pissed off (PRC wins this one by miles!)
- miles of border with semi-hostile neighbors
- number of fronts of war we’ll have to fight if something starts
PRC may win everything in the graphic currently, but what about the technological factor between those numbers? Any force multiplication can be a huge leveler.
Yeh, it’s called traversing international waters.
The current CCP leadership is obviously in over their heads, making mistake after mistake, then responding to internal dissent with brutal bullying. They are quickly turning into a huge North Korea. The worst aspect is stupid people never stop doing stupid things. They are very close to accidentally setting off major bloodshed.
Ditto, Menards.
