Never knew generals could be so bitchy.

I've dealt with dozens of retired officers that were freaking drama queens. I was lucky, the generals that I knew were awesome. Then you have the ones that never took off the rank once they retired. They don't realize that to most people, they're now just another Mr. Jones, and they can't handle it.

I found this once, but I have searched, for years, in vain, for the original -

“Generals, like poets, are an angry race.”

This is a riff of course, on Richard Francis Burtons’
“Travellers, like poets, are mostly an angry race.”

The context is that generals’ memoirs tend to be filled with complaints about other generals, and their superiors.
