I don’t understand Abbot’s thinking on this. Surely a locked drop-off box is more secure than a postal mail drop. Ballot pickup will then be by county election personnel, perhaps even with “election watcher” ride-alongs, rather than postal (read union) employees.

I would think more drop boxes than fewer would be desirable.

Un-monitored drop off locations make it easier for folks to help their friends, family, and neighbors vote. Doing their part to get out the vote!

Same here. Also, Harris county is where Houston is, 20 years ago it took 45 minutes to get halfway across town, on a good day. (north side airport to downtown, I did it many times, 45 minutes) Big place, traffic is a nightmare during business hours, I see no reason to not have 4 drop boxes, one in each geographical section of town. North, south etc.

Locked and watched should be possible. Mailboxes are much less secure.

Similar for Travis county, that’s Austin. In 1985 they were ahead of traffic, now not so much. Not as big as Houston, but still a large place, no reason to not have 2 boxes, one north, one south. The south box could be right outside the capitol on Guadalupe St. Or 3 or 4 blocks to the south at the entrance to UT (University of Texas...I forget not everyone knows that)

Then there’s San Antonio and Dallas, the only time I was in Dallas it took me 45 minutes to get across town, and that was 25 years ago. San Antone same thing. I lived there in 1996, at least 45 minutes to cross from I-35 north to the south side. Not that I’d want to spend much time in south San Antonio...not unarmed anyway...

I don’t see Abbott’s reasoning. I don’t want 32 drop boxes in Houston, but 4 well placed would make it a lot easier for residents to find and get to. Especailly around 4pm...when anyone with some sense should be sitting in a park somewhere watching the fools drive by...
