What we have done to people in nursing homes sounds like solitary confinement in prison, a very pleasant prison but still a prison.

And we can’t really be assured that it is pleasant. Elder abuse occurs in nursing homes when families can visit. I don’t even want to think about what could be going on when staff knows that there’s no chance of being observed or caught.
Mom is 96 and we’re blessed that my brother’s family moved into the homestead to take care of her. She’s healthy mentally and physically, so it isn’t a dreadful situation.
