Former intelligence officials condemn Trump administration's selective releases about Russia investigation as a risk to sensitive sources

As the Trump administration continues to declassify selective CIA documents regarding the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, former intelligence officials are expressing concern the releases are politically motivated and potentially damaging national security.

Trump’s director of national intelligence, John Ratcliffe, has declassified bits and pieces of highly redacted CIA notes and memos including a Russian allegation then-Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton was planning to tie Trump to Russia to distract from the ongoing controversy over her private email server.

The highly selective disclosures reveal little additional substance about the investigation into Russian meddling or the Trump campaign, say former intelligence officers. Instead the release serves as a dangerous example of Ratcliffe politicizing intelligence and putting the CIA’s sources at risk without reason, as well as distracting the American public from other issues just weeks before the election.

Larry Pfeiffer, former senior CIA officer and director of George Mason University’s Hayden Center, said the decision to publish the memos fell into a pattern on the part of the White House, but is additionally disturbing because of the danger of revealing the agency’s sources and methods inside Russia.

Last week, Ratcliffe shared an investigative referral document with the Senate Judiciary Committee that mentions Clinton approving “a plan concerning U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump and Russian hackers hampering U.S. elections.” A second release, declassified on Tuesday, features handwritten notes by former CIA Director John Brennan concerning a discussion in Russia about Clinton’s alleged “plan” to tie Trump to Russia — around the same time Trump infamously called upon “Russia, if you’re listening” to find Clinton’s “missing” emails during a news conference.

However, the notes and referral have nothing to do with criminal activity on the part of the Clinton campaign, explained Brennan during a discussion on CBS.

The man sure is an arrogant backwards pissing son of a toad.

He may well be but he's right this time.

There are no allegations of anything remotely illegal here. What's the public interest in declassifying and releasing releasing this?

To show that Clinton was trying to hurt Trump politically? Welcome to the minors - this isn't even big league politics.

BS. There was no valid security implications in any of the released materials. All the materials were classified to enable the cover-up and to hide their criminality behind a wall of alleged national security.

#9. Bingo. These are people who have made our intelligence accuracy a worldwide joke. ISIS - We don’t know nutting!
Missiles in Cuba - Nada thing. Vietnam’s 1968 Tet’s scope (not that it wasn’t coming - known).

Iran’s nuclear program - Obama, Brennan, Clapper, etc. The “Three Blind Mice”.

Cuban involvement in drug trafficking and subversion throughout Latin America and the Caribbean - NADA!

Soviet/PLO/Cuba and possibly Libyan military aid to the Sandinistas in Nicaragua (1970’s) and possibly to the FMLN in El Salvador (late 1970’s - 80’s).

Antifa having foreign origins and ties - The Sgt Schulz response - “We know nothink”@!!

Sen. Diane Feinstein (Sen. Intelligence Committee) had a Red Chinese spy as her chauffeur and bugger in place) for over a decade and couldn’t find out about him and why.

The same for the Pakistani Brothers running the IT computer systems for Congress. (Also the FBI under Comey).

Red Chinese penetration on a massive scale of universities, research companies/labs, student organizations on campuses, blackmailing Chinese citizens in the US to work for them or else their relatives in Red China would be jailed or killed.

Singing the old Sam Cook song “Don’t Know Much About Espionage” (Sam Cook, 1960, “Wonderful World”).

Hell’s bells. I got more historical information from a half an hour of tea with senior No. Vietnamese military leaders than the CIA did. (The CIA wasn’t bad in VN. You just had to ask the right questions). Still classified though it would blow your minds as to what the two A4s targeted and the results of it.

If the secret sources that spied upon a Presidential campaign and fed intel to the opposing power are concerned about being “outed” for fear of their lives and methods, I am perfectly fine with shipping them of to N. Korea or sending them to Gitmo for their own “protection.”

They had their chance to come forward, tell what they knew and demand that Mueller tell the truth. They didn’t. So sit down and shut up.

We already know the sources and methods- it was Democrat politicians giving fake stories to the Intelligence Community.
