They were 'so concerned' that they jumped on board and continued to push this hoax on the American public for years both as public servants and later as high paid analysts, novelists, anonymous sources to the media etc... Amazingly (/s) Mueller and Horowitz never saw any of this.

I read it more that they were worried the Russians would destroy Clinton’s plan more than a national security issue.
