That isn't how the human immune system works. There is no mechanism by which macrophages, neutrophils, dendritic cells, T-cells, or B-cells can go "to sleep". That's not a thing that exists.

I can tell you from the personal experience of a cousin that a cancer from long go most definitely *is* a factor. Partially due to the prohibition of routine medical exams during the Covid lock-downs, a cousin had a reoccurrence of cancer go undiagnosed and untreated. She died.

There is no mechanism for any part of the human immune system (which is made up of dozes of components that all interact with one another) to “weaken over time if not challenged by exposure to pathogens”. Now, if you stayed completely enveloped in a bubble for a decade, there would be a wider variety of novel pathogens due to antigenic shift, but as long as you’re eating, drinking, exercising, etc. the same from start to finish, your time in the bubble makes no difference to your immune system. It’s not a muscle that becomes weaker when it’s not exercised. Your immune system exists as a part of you, improving over time via Memory B-cells. But the macrophages, neutrophils, dendritic cells, compliment system, etc. are the same today as they were a year ago and will be the same a year from now, unless you do something that really wrecks your body.
The concept behind vaccines is that you trigger the chain of reactions that result in Memory B-cells being created specific to a certain pathogen. Once those Memory B-cells are in place, any future exposure to that pathogen results in a rapid release of antibodies, which likely overwhelms the pathogen immediately. This is the immunity that is conferred by vaccines.

Every single system in your entire body functions less efficiently as you get much older, which is driven by an increased rate of damage and decreased rate of repair right down to the cellular level. That has zero to do with anything specific to how the immune system works. It has zero to do with how many pathogens you’re exposed to. What I said is correct: the macrophages, neutrophils, dendritic cells, compliment system, etc. are the same today as they were a year ago and will be the same a year from now.
I said nothing about the system operating with perfect efficiency 50 years from now. The same degradation in efficiency associated with aging affects everything. But the MECHANISMS by which those components operate remain, even as all the cells - and even the components of the cells such as mitochondria - work less effectively.
