I used to run a website devoted to conspiracy theories. The one thing I found out, which a psychologist later found out through a few studies here and there, is that people who believe in conspiracy theories usually have "… personality traits such as openness to experience, distrust, low agreeability, and Machiavellianism are associated with conspiracy belief."

So, yep! Deranged and depraved just about covers it!
