“....Civil Rights and Equal Treatment quickly morphed into quotas ..... “
Hubert Humphrey in arguing with Barry Goldwater to get his support of the 1964 Civil Rights Bill said if any part of this bill resulted in quotas he would eat the bill on the Senate floor.
Note Goldwater voted against this bill because of Title II and Title VII parts of the bill would indeed lead to quotas.
Further note: Goldwater felt that constitutionally the federal government had no legal right to interfere in who people hired, fired; or to whom they sold their products, goods, and services. He felt that power laid in the various states, and with the people. He was a strong advocate of the tenth amendment. Goldwaters constitutional stance did not mean he agreed with the segregation and racial discrimination practiced in the South. To the contrary, he fought against these kinds of racial divides in his own state of Arizona. He supported the integration of the Arizona National Guard and Phoenix public schools. Goldwater was, also, a member of the NAACP and the Urban League.
Hubert Humphrey is not available to answer as to how the bill tasted.
This was one of the really unforgivable things Wallace did. Chris Wallace is a fairly educated man. He clearly knew that Trump explicitly called out “Critical Race THeory”. And he clearly knows the difference between “CRT” and the standard diversity training.
But instead of briefly explaining CRT and asking Trump why he banned it, he falsely claimed Trump was banning diversity training. And when Trump tried to explain what he was doing, Wallace interrupted him.
Now, what would have been fun is if Trump had simply read 2 lines from a CRT “training document”, like the ones in this article. Most people don’t understand what CRT is, and would be shocked and angered that democrats were defending it.
I also would have liked to have seen Biden asked to explain CRT and why he supported it. Can’t believe he could speak for 1 minute about it.
