‘They’ hijacked another ‘word’ from the past.
It (at one time) meant ‘Put a lid on it’ when you had completed a task OR a parent telling you to ‘knock it off’.
‘Popular’ about the time ‘Put a sock in it’ meant STFU or something close to that.
Amen to that. We bought & sold 'lids' back in the day. Is that what they are really talking about?
