Pulse oximetry is not the standard they would use. It’s a continuous monitor that is standardized in a case against an arterial blood gas. It’s probably pretty important to realize that there is a plethora of labs and tests that are run at the hospital level that determine treatment and improvement or worsening.

I further think it important not to interpret the data without understanding what really might be taking place. I would bet my lunch money that he ended up hospitalized based on symptoms and an unattractive blood gas.

So perhaps we can agree that there is far more sophisticated and sensitive tests than the “common sense” everyone realizes.
