Just thinking here, with two diametrically opposed ideology’s such as capitalism and socialism, that perhaps the attempt to be civil (which always meant conservatives do the compromising) is what got us to where we are.
The avowed socialist has always operated as if they are in a life and death struggle with capitalism.
The GOP on the other hand as always look for a way to “go along just to get along”.
Something to ponder.

You’re totally right. This is why “but but the left are the REAL intolerant ones” is a terrible line of argument, and that’s a big disagreement on tactics I have with the Shapiro/Crowder crowd. Well intentioned but it’s a terrible tactic. I’ll explain why. The whole point of the left preaching “tolerance” as a universal truth, esp. during the 1990s-2000s, was to weaken the right on cultural issues. The left NEVER truly adopted tolerance as a universal truth. That is plainly seen if you interact with them. This was just a tactic to slow our side down.
Besides, no we shouldn’t tolerate the cultural detritus that we see now.
