Donald Trump's microphone could be turned off in the next debate if he keeps interrupting or he might get a time penalty under Debate commission plans after 'dumpster fire' clash

Donald Trump may have his microphone switched off or even be issued a time penalty if he keeps interrupting Joe Biden when the pair meet again for the second presidential debate next month.

The potential changes could be introduced as part of the Commission on Presidential Debates' (CPD) pledge to make the next showdown more 'orderly', after Tuesday's chaotic 90 minute debate was branded a 'dumpster fire' and a 'national embarrassment.'

Critics have demanded changes to the format, with some saying it was the worst presidential debate in history. Moderator Chris Wallace was faulted for not being able to control the unruly president, who would not stop talking.

of course they won’t penalize Biden nor do they mention Biden was the first one to interrupt regardless Trump just needs to come in disciplined and know that Biden will screw up if he let’s him talk

Leaving it up the moderators is the problem. Let them fight or don’t. Moderators will always pick the side of the candidate they support, and that’s not going to be Trump. If the candidates can’t control themselves, it’s not difficult to set a timer on the microphone. The candidate activates the mic when he begins and it cuts off after the allotted time.

I would grab Biden’s microphone and tell the “moderator” to go to hell.

Ironically, this could backfire on the Democraps. Though I don’t blame Trump for calling out Slow Joe’s bullsqueeze, if you let that idiot keep talking he will inevitably ram one or both feet firmly in his mouth. Case in point, his cringey babbling train stop “rally” the day after the “debate”.

If Biden can’t handle relatively minor interruptions, then he can’t handle foreign leaders.

The format change should be: no disparaging preambles to moderator questions.

Example:
President Trump, what health care plan do you have ready to replace to ACA, if you overturn it?

NOT:
You have no comprehensive alternative health plan.
Your EO on preexisting conditions was largely symbolic.

If the moderator chooses to fire off preambles like these in a lead up to a question, particularly when aimed at one side and not the other, then the president should get to interrupt with a rebuttal to each one, as Trump rightfully did.

Well, it was a dumpster fire and he did interrupt about fifty times but it wasn’t like he wasn’t encouraged by Howdy Doody and Jalopy Joe

woke up this morning (in Australia) to BBC World Service news bulletin.
their top ***story, which I’ve just located:

1 Oct: ABC: Biden calls Trump’s debate performance a ‘national embarrassment’ as he kicks off train tour
ByJohn Verhovek and Molly Nagle
Pressed on his participation in the next two debates, slated for next month in Miami, Florida, and Nashville, Tennessee, respectively, Biden said he is “looking forward to” them, but expressed hope that candidates will be allowed to answer questions free from the interruptions that defined last night’s conversation.

***”I just hope there’s a way in which the debate commission can control the ability of us to answer the question without interruptions. I’m not going to speculate on what happens in the second or third debate,” Biden said.
https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/biden-calls-trump-debate-performance-national-embarrassment-kicks-off-train-tour/story?id=73340823

an hour later, BBC’s top headline was:

1 Oct: BBC: US election: Rules on debates to change after Trump-Biden spat

(NOTE THE OFFICIAL NARRATIVE ALSO CARRIED BY BBC, OF COURSE)
The fallout, however, has also been dominated by remarks Mr Trump made about a far-right group called the Proud Boys.
On Wednesday he sought to clarify his comments, but his critics maintain he has refused to condemn white supremacists...
President Trump constantly interrupted Mr Biden leading to a series of chaotic exchanges in which both men talked over each other...

CBS News, citing an informed source, said the commission would spend the next 48 hours drawing up new guidelines and rules for the second debate.
Controlling the candidates’ microphones is at the top of the list, CBS said, in order to prevent them interrupting the moderator or each other.
Both campaign teams will be informed of the rules but they will not be subject to negotiation, the source added...

Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh, who had described Tuesday’s night’s chaotic scenes as a “free exchange of ideas”, criticised the plans.
“They are only doing this because their guy got pummelled last night,” he said in a statement...

Kate Bedingfield, deputy manager for Mr Biden’s campaign, said the former vice-president would participate “under whatever set of rules the commission develops to try to contain Donald Trump’s behaviour”...

What did Mr Trump say about Proud Boys? ETC

President Trump:

Please do not do any debate where this would happen.

It would be done to you and not to Biden.

The next two debates and the VP debate should be mano a mano with no moderator and the candidates asking each other the questions.

Lincoln and Douglas didn’t need no stinking moderator.

Trump should tell the American people that if Biden had to deal with Russia Or China, he can’t “turn off their microphone”to protect himself.

Further, think how evil Biden is. “We will agree to anything they do to control Trump”. That’s disgusting.

They are trying to get Trump to quit the debates. This is now a plot.

Interrupting one another is common and is hardly an emergency.

Further, the candidates ALWAYS have to agree on the rules.

This is BS.

This is a ploy to put pressure on Trump to walk away form the debates....so Biden doesn’t have to debate.

You would have if I were Trump.

Biden lied his ass off and threw his party’s platform under the bus. (I said it here before Rush said it.)
