SACRAMENTO
With Gov. Gavin Newsoms signature, California became the first state government in the country on Wednesday to adopt a law to study and develop proposals for potential reparations to descendants of enslaved people and those impacted by slavery.
Newsom said the new law and bipartisan support for its passage is proving a paradigm that we hope will be resonant all across the United States.
In a year of national protests against racial injustice, state lawmakers approved Assembly Bill 3121 to force the state to begin to confront its racist history and systemic disparities that persist today. Although California entered the Union as a free state in 1850, slavery continued there after the state Constitution outlawed it the previous year. Slavery was abolished by the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1865.
The new law creates a task force to recommend appropriate remedies to the state Legislature and determine who should be eligible to receive compensation, which advocates hope will become a model in a country where movements to make amends for centuries of slavery have failed to gain traction at the federal level.

Shoulda moved farther way, NC’s getting pretty purple.
Do the reparations include the 1000 years that Europeans were enslaved by the middle east and north Africa prior to the middle east’s African slave trade?
I mean, I’ve watched a number of videos of black Americans getting their dna results and finding out they were 40% or more European. Not from slave abuse in the U.S., but from the slave trading in northern Africa of Europeans.
The reference in the Marine’s Hymn “to the shores of Tripoli” refers to Thomas Jefferson’s deployment of the marines to stop the enslavement of Americans and Europeans by the very people who accuse us of slavery.
I want my reparations for my Danish, British, German, Irish, Slovakain, and Finnish ancestors! And remember, it went on for a 1000 years, not a mere 400.
There were 300,000 white slaves before there were black slaves. This means both whites and blacks have to receive reparations if this were to be fair and equitable.
Otherwise it would be, wait for it, RACIST.
But wait, there were also Chinese slaves, so what to do?
Uh oh, the Hispanics have been working for pennies on the dollar on the farms, so I guess they need to get paid now too.
If descendants of slaves move to California now, will they get reparations paid by CA taxpayers too? Mass migration coming up...
I have a question about these “reparations” .
Whose going to get them? By that I am asking is this just for blacks alive right now or is this going to be a payout to every black alive and to be born from now on?
California was never a slave state, so how could the state possibly be liable to reparations?
I’d think it’s probably a Trostky-style permanent revolution. From whatever day they pass it, anyone ‘black’ will be eligible for whatever amount is decided. I just guess that, but that’s the left way of doing things.
But will Newsome do anything about CURRENT DAY SLAVERY IN AFRICA????
I’m sure the Mexicans will be thrilled with the idea of paying blacks money.
Newsom just slit his throat.
"This Just In: The Crime Rate has just gone to 0 percent. What, did the Mexicans get Reparations too?"
As long as they are paid by the benefactors of slavery, the
Democratic Party, I’m for it.
I wonder if they will deduct any and all $ thats been appropriated for several decades.
Where in my post did I bash CA?
I simply stated a FACT.
Is CA not going broke?
California was never a SLAVE STATE so why should they care.
Fine...
Whites eradicated slavery, which is still practiced in Africa, the Middle east and Asia.
How much are the black communities are going to pay us?
/s
So how would these slave bonuses be determined for many of us with African DNA?
Below is my African DNA puzzle, and I don’t want any money.
Free C., Nancy, Nancy Busby, South Carolina 173?-????
Born 173? With Benin/Togo DNA, my African DNA?
Free C., Nancy, Nancy Busby was My documented 6th Great-Grandmother!
Apparently, some of her ancestors were freed slaves in the late 1600s in Virginia and were documented as Freed Slaves. Often, they were identified by only their first name, as they had no surnames. Many are documented in censuses taken during their lifetime as Free Slaves with only their first name.
A current/alive African DNA cousin, recently told me that a lot of Africans alive in the late 1600s and 1700s, were Free Slaves. So again do their descendents get these giveaways?
Again, do descendents from Freed Slaves with African DNA qualify for this giveaway?
We saw this with abortion. I firmly believe when Reagan signed the abortion bill in CA it paved the road for SCOTUS to later make it "legal" at the Federal level.
Give’em time. If this goes everyone will have their hand out.
Notice Gavin does nothing for Native Americans, the most affected people in this nation as far as slavery and genocide. O)only pandering to a group that has had every advantage over the last 50 years
