Oakland is at least as far left as Portland but there’s really not that many riots or people hurt or angry people and what’s the reason why?

I attended U.C. Santa Barbara in the 60s. I remember radicals coming down from Berkeley/San Francisco and telling us that Santa Barbara was just too beautiful to ever become properly radical.

Oakland is not even close to what is happening in Portland, Seattle, Chicago, NYC and other cities. So far. Knock on wood.

Worked in Oakland numerous times, never without a gun. You have a nice story BUT.............

The weather

Rioting season in Portland is from roughly May to Sep/Oct, when the weather is (relatively) warm. If I had to make a single guess as to why the rioting is so particularly heavy and continuous this year, it is because, with the lockdowns, the usual whacked-out anarchist contingent and all of the other bored layabouts just had nothing better to do.
