They just bought a house here in Phoenix area. Enough was enough. They pay $700 a month for private security (they were burglarized three times).
The last straws were two fold: BLM asking door to door for a donation to put up a BLM sign in their yard (an implied threat) and the Mayors house being attacked in an early morning demonstration ( they were close enough to be awakened by the noise). They plan to retire, sell an move to a red state. They are both voting Trump this time.
Well, I'm glad they woke up.
That thing about the BLM asking for "donations" to put up yard signs is unsettling, to say the least. A lot of my neighbors have been shaken down, apparently.
Police don’t come to anyone’s aid when they are called for burglary in Oakland.
That said (I’ve lived near but not in Oakland for 30 years) I’d say these days Oakland is not as bad as Seattle or Portland and certainly not Chicago or Baltimore.
Trump is an East Coaster and is remembering a bit of Oakland from the past. It’s pricey to live there now. It’s gentrifying.
