Henceforce, even if you’re a professor, the proper way to address a raised hand is with a nod and “yo”.
Until “yo” becomes problematic, symbolic of something, not appreciative enough of someone’s lives, etc., etc. Then it can evolve to “ze” and continue the iterative process of P.C. ad infinitum.
My brother teaches high school. He has resorted to using last name only.

But if he refers to the brain addled skull full of mush by their chosen gender and the parents are not equally disturbed, he can still get in trouble.
