If you work for Larry Fink, he really wants to know whom you’re hooking up with.
Fink, the voluble chief executive of BlackRock — the world’s largest money manager — recently “updated” his company’s dating policy. In the past, employees were on notice to tell HR anytime they had a romantic relationship with another employee, an understandable but intrusive part of corporate life in the era of #MeToo.
But last week, Fink and his management team went overboard, with a policy that was euphemistically titled “updated relationships at work.”
“Employees are required to disclose all Personal Relationships with other BlackRock employees or contingent workers; as well as Personal Relationships with employees of a service provider, vendor, or other third party (including a client), if the non-BlackRock employee is within a group that interacts with BlackRock,” read a portion of the policy obtained by yours truly...
Consider: BlackRock employs more than 16,000 people worldwide...
***Fink, meanwhile, relishes his role as maybe the most woke chief executive in Corporate America, and has been angling, I am told, to become Treasury secretary if Joe Biden wins in November.
See his comments on corporate governance, climate change, actions he’s taken in response to the recent civil unrest, and you might conclude that Fink’s real goal is getting his name on the dollar bill.

An Aussie journalist who fled China says the difference between what you hear about COVID-19 there compared to elsewhere is almost unfathomable.

A journalist who was recently forced to flee China on the advice of the Australian government says the country has come out of COVID-19 “absolutely laughing”.
Bill Birtles, who was the ABC’s China correspondent in Beijing from 2015 until a few weeks ago, said it was a “parallel world” between what was being heard about COVID-19 there compared to elsewhere.
“It is almost unfathomably different,” he told a Lowy Institute webinar discussion about Australia’s fractured ties with China.
“Everybody has kind of moved on from the whole Wuhan stuff-up in China ... the coverage has been shaped ... to a narrative controlled by the party.
“On the ground, China has absolutely smashed COVID.”...
Mr Birtles said the government had almost eliminated domestic transmission among a population of 1.4 billion people, compared to countries like ***India, the US and Brazil, which was an “extraordinary achievement”.
He said the US also gave China a “gift” with its terrible handling of the virus, which had been “absolutely exploited for all political gain domestically” in China through the state media.
“People who kind of say ‘maybe this is China’s Chernobyl’ or something, they really underestimate the many levers of political control, and media control, and information control that the party now has,” he said.
“I can’t imagine a stronger position for the party to be in, except of course for the US trade war.
“But certainly on COVID, they’ve come out of it absolutely laughing.”...

At an event Monday that was part of Climate Week New York, four prior EPA administrators (who served) under Republican and Democratic presidents endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, denounced Trump’s approach to the agency, and said the upcoming election is critical for the environment...
Rebuilding scientific staff at the EPA will take years. “We didn’t just lose four year of the ability of career people to do their jobs,” said (Carol) Browner, “but those career people are being robbed of resources and support they need to do their work. We need to overcome what we have lost in these four year.”
