He used the nickname Beto to try to make the Hispanics believe he was Hispanic during his run for President and his run against Ted Cruz here in Texas.

It WAS his nickname, as a kid. Then, when he went away to college, he dropped it.
When it could serve him, politically, he picked it back up.
