I had two co-workers who claimed to be charismatic Catholics in the early 80’s-they were a bit different than my family and I in how they worshipped but no speaking in tongues, passing out, etc-none of that stuff mentioned at all...

It is out there. Been there, done that, bought that T-shirt.

Lord’s Ranch, in south eastern New Mexico, with connections in El Passo and Juarez, was a hub in West Texas. Visited there for a couple of weeks in ‘86. Interesting place—first time I saw somebody exercising what was purported to be the gift of prophecy. It struck me, upon reflection and the passing of time, as at least in that instant, the gift of wishful thinking—over he next half-dozen years I drifted from the fringes of the movement to out.

Im old enough to remember there was a real attitude of reservation in the JFK election, that he’d have a moral conviction to convert citizens to catholics. His foreign policy agenda would be subject to undue influence of the Pope.
