This was also reported 5+ years ago by security groups in regards to USB cables as well.
As I recall, I read an article written by Kevin Mitnick about these “hacked” cables.

hotel wifi isn’t an issue if you run a VPN.
They are good - not necessarily the “best”, BUT - their customer service is outstanding. I’ve had both cables and chargers they make fail - and they quickly replace.
Thanks Jane, already pinged the list. Appreciate it though.
That may be true for the same contractors for workers on OTHER contractees assembly lines, but not with Apples work. Apple will not allow it. Those other manufacturers who contract their work with Chinese assemblers and other companies, do not maintain monitors in those plants like Apple does to make sure the workers are being treated fairly.
Apples contracts penalties are too draconian to risk for the small rewards of a greedy contractee breaking them. For example, even if an underage employee working at a contractor is not the fault of the contractor, the contractor is obligated to pay the for a college or university education including housing for the underage employee through graduation or age 26 in a degree program of his or her choice, whichever occurs first. If the practice is deliberate, the contractors contract is pulled and awarded to the next lowest capable bidder. Thats happened twice that I know of when contractors opted to ignore the underage clause.
Apple has been publishing a twice yearly report on the compliance of their contractors with their requirements on employee treatment and employee rights for at least 20 years. Theyve been monitoring it for that long. . . And enforcing it. Apple has been responsible for improving worker safety, working conditions, and pay in consumer electronics in China by requiring better safety, conditions, and pay on their assembly lines.
