This was also reported 5+ years ago by security groups in regards to USB cables as well.

As I recall, I read an article written by Kevin Mitnick about these “hacked” cables.

They are good - not necessarily the “best”, BUT - their customer service is outstanding. I’ve had both cables and chargers they make fail - and they quickly replace.

Actually, he still doesn’t and neither does the Australian Strategic Policy Institute. If Apple learns that one of their contract partners is in any way using forced labor, that contract is immediately pulled from that partner and awarded to another company. This has happened several times in the past. That is written in Apple’s contracts with all of their suppliers. That is one of the reasons that Apple uses it’s own employees as monitors in ALL of its contractors’ plants and work places with a requirement that employees have free access to those monitors to express any complaint. Apple has pulled multi-billion contracts based on violation of that clause. They’ve pulled multi-billion dollar contracts for employing underage workers. So, no, SanchoP, neither PLMerite nor ASPI know what they are talking about when it comes to Apple and their contract suppliers. Apple is very stringent in their enforcement of these contracts.

That may be true for the same contractors for workers on OTHER contractee’s assembly lines, but not with Apple’s work. Apple will not allow it. Those other manufacturers who contract their work with Chinese assemblers and other companies, do not maintain monitors in those plants like Apple does to make sure the workers are being treated fairly.

Apple’s contract’s penalties are too draconian to risk for the small rewards of a greedy contractee breaking them. For example, even if an underage employee working at a contractor is not the fault of the contractor, the contractor is obligated to pay the for a college or university education including housing for the underage employee through graduation or age 26 in a degree program of his or her choice, whichever occurs first. If the practice is deliberate, the contractor’s contract is pulled and awarded to the next lowest capable bidder. That’s happened twice that I know of when contractors opted to ignore the underage clause.

Apple has been publishing a twice yearly report on the compliance of their contractors with their requirements on employee treatment and employee rights for at least 20 years. They’ve been monitoring it for that long. . . And enforcing it. Apple has been responsible for improving worker safety, working conditions, and pay in consumer electronics in China by requiring better safety, conditions, and pay on their assembly lines.
