Armed and Black. How a group of men licensed to carry guns say they are seeking racial justi

MINNEAPOLIS — Before he drove to the grocery store parking lot, Romeal Taylor did the same thing he’s done every day this summer — he holstered his 9-millimeter handgun to the waistband of his gym shorts until he could feel it hug his right hip. When he arrived at the store in north Minneapolis he spotted six other Black men, some in tactical gear, armed with Glock 23s and Smith & Wesson M&Ps. One of them beamed when he spotted Taylor and hugged him.

“Bro, good to see you,” Taylor said, muffled through a face mask.

<“It’s important to have men from the community step up for the community,” said Sasha Cotton, director of the city’s Office of Violence Prevention. “It’s their right to be out on the streets and it’s commendable. There are Black residents who in the early days of the unrest felt vulnerable ... and still do.”

Cotton said the Freedom Fighters have also met with Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo, who is Black, and they’re in touch with precinct commanders.

A spokesman for the Minneapolis Police Department declined repeated requests for comment. At a summer Freedom Fighters event, a patrol officer stopped and posed for selfies with members of the group during a 30-minute visit. Leslie Redmond, president of the Minneapolis National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People, said she is happy the men are armed and wants them to grow as community leaders.

“These brothers were there in the beginning, when threats were being made by white supremacists,” she said. “There is no doubt they stepped up for the community.”

So white people can form a militia and be supported by the local police and community groups?

I want to see the reaction from the local black criminals (assuming they aren’t one and the same); sounds like these are productive people.

Maybe this is like the “strategic hamlet” program, where local residents have to protect themselves from local killers; the cops certainly aren’t going to show up...

Oooooh, were the “white supremacists” hiding under your bed, or maybe in your closet at night, or outside in a shrubbery?

Is this the same group of folks who recently had a march and apparently accidentally shot a few of their own people while playing with the guns?

“... than, say, white militia members who stormed state capitols waving their firearms without repercussions in recent months.”

I somehow missed that. The Big Lie is as popular as ever.

Interesting how the SJW/Lefties in government supports it.

The article is a jumble of confused leftist slogans. The fact is, if these armed men are carrying daily in their own neighborhoods, the chance of them seeing a “white supremecist” is zero. The chance of them coming across (likely black) drug-addicts, muggers and gangsters is very high. I hope someone is noting down the outcomes of those encounters.

If these guys are law-abiding citizens exercising their 2nd Amendment rights I say more power to them. All one has to do is take a quick look at the statistics for who is responsible for the majority of black deaths in urban areas to see how important these weapons could be for their protection.

Has anyone asked these fellows how they feel about Joe Biden’s promise to appoint Beto as his “Gun Czar”?

White supremacists are anyone a black person points at. The ever elusive boogeyman, created by our leftist media, hiding under the bed, just around the corner, spying from their kitchen window, hiding in plain sight at your bank, local grocer, movie theater and laundromat.
Divisiveness has never been higher, based on lies, perpetuated by the MSM.

My thoughts exactly. Propaganda piece.

I have no problems with Blacks legally protecting their own communities.
I do have a problem with some of the language in this article though.
Who exactly are the White Supremacists they fell threatened by?

On April 30, Michiganders opposing the endless lockdown demonstrated at the state Capitol and (gasp) entered the building as is permitted. They chanted (as did union anti-RTW people in past years).

The left immediately cast this as “storming” the Capitol and has been reusing their lie since, as well as trying to use it as to create a no gun zone. They failed.

Interesting story...I have no quarrel with any group exercising their right to bear arms, although the premise that businesses in North Minneapolis were set ablaze by “white supremacists” is ludicrous.

Also buried in the article is this narrative driven paragraph exposing the extreme leftist bent of the writer.

" Near Portland, meanwhile, Michael Reinoehl, 48, a white man who had provided armed security to protesters, was killed by federal agents in a hail of gunfire as they sought to arrest him in the shooting death of a member of a far-right group. Before his death, which government agents claim occurred when he pulled out a weapon as they confronted him, Reinoehl had told a reporter that he had acted to protect the life of a companion when the man he shot attempted to attack them."

“What are you doing?”

“Scaring away elephants.”

“But there aren’t any elephants around here!”

“Well, then, it’s working.”

shot a few of their own people

That doesn't count. For every 10 of theirs killed, 9.7 are killed by ... one of their own race.

It's only when a black criminal is killed in the commission of a crime that can translate into chaos, destruction and demands for money from crackers.

“The left immediately cast this as “storming” the Capitol...”

Yes, I know. The media did the same thing here in Virginia for the big pro-2A demonstration.
