President Donald Trump says his Supreme Court short list includes judge from Michigan

President Donald Trump said on Fox and Friends on Monday he was considering a judge from Michigan to replace U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died last week.

Trump called Ginsburg “a legend,” despite her having a different political perspective than him.

Her death creates an opening on the Supreme Court, which Trump said he intends to announce a nominee for on Friday or Saturday after memorial services for Ginsburg are completed.

The candidates, he said, include “a great one from Michigan.”

He’s down to a short list of candidates, he said.

“It’s down to five and it could be any one of them, they’re really great,” he said.

He’s narrowed the list down to women and said he was looking at younger candidates who would be on the court for a long time. Supreme Court appointments are lifetime appointments.

U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Joan Larsen made Trump’s list for a previous opening on the court. He said Monday the people he was considering had made previous lists and already been vetted, saying “pretty much they’ve all gone through the process very recently.”

Democrats have criticized Trump and Senate Republicans for pursuing a nomination during an election year when they declined to do so for a previous opening under former President Barack Obama in 2016, as his term was ending.

Trump said on Fox and Friends the current situation is different.

“There’s a difference. When you have the Senate, when you have the votes, you can sort of do what you want as long as you have it,” Trump said.

A dark horse candidate, maybe? I'm embarrassed to say I don't know much about her.

I’m pretty confident that it won’t be Joan Larsen. For anything else she’s done since, she has a gigantic red flag in her background that will make her an impossible sell to conservatives right now.

She actually worked for Joe Biden’s presidential campaign back in the late 80s.

Idk. That was 33 years ago. In 1987 she was 18. A high school or college kid. Look what she has done since then.

No more time wasting, these are already approved Justices, pick 1, and send to Senate, tell Mitch get off his butt and confirm.

Bury her, get the Flag back up, move on. Your voters want ACTION NOW, NOT NEXT WEEK.
