Do you honestly think the democrats waste political capital and time squabbling over every circuit judge? They don’t. The only really epic battles are for SCOTUS nominees. The rest are just mostly usual business and affairs for the US Senate.
For those of you “disqualifying her” based on democrat votes you might want to reconsider your thought process. I bet most of the Senators do not even remember her name or could not remark either way on her nomination.
Trump has a good team when it comes to judges. Will they be perfect or rule exactly how we want based on the media (ours or theirs) framing an issue politically. No. However, their overall judicial philosophy will dictate the majority of the important decisions.
This lady is obviously very impressive and accomplished with a track record that put her on the President’s list. He won and he gets to make the nominations.
Why would Trump pick a Cuban-American Woman currently sitting on the 11th Circuit Court and previously a Florida Supreme Court Justice as his nominee?
As a former Rocket Science graduate, I can answer that question: Because she is the perfect choice: conservative, woman, Cuban heritage, communist hating, from Swing State Florida and a supremely (no pun intended) qualified and proven candidate.
This pick needs to be a conservative black female. There is no guarantee we can keep the Rhinos on board and we have to either win it or score a major political hit.
Stop thinking in the box, they are setting up this election to go to the Supreme court.
Its politics and you do what you have to do to win.
Hispanic grew up in the majority Cuban city of Hialeah outside Miami....She was one of a dozen lawyers who represented the Miami family of Elián González.
Lagoa was appointed to the Third District Court of Appeal by Governor ‘Jeb Bush’ in June 2006 and became Chief Judge on January 1, 2019 appointed to the Supreme Court of Florida by Governor Ron DeSantis. She ‘resigned her position’ when she was elevated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit...She received her judicial commission on December 6, 2019. On September 9, 2020, President Trump included her on a list of potential nominees to the Supreme Court.
Nah....I don’t want another Hispanic/cuban background on the Court nor one who looks like she was catapulted through appointments....
You are wrong.
This is the sort of Senate vote you want to see:
We are in agreement, caww!
Beside the point...I looked at her history....not strong enough for me to seat her...just not enough history.
I wrote last week....that’s why he lengthened the list....to drive the Dems crazy researching.
Well done!
We either trust Trump or we don’t. He does not get everything right and it is unlikely he will find a judge that bats 100% for me or you.
He is doing well with Judges and having friends who worked inside congress including the judiciary committee they all express surprise over votes on nominees - some line up to be a huge battle and nothing happens, others look easy and they turn into a bitter fight.
I don’t know that we should read too much into this one way or another. Trump floats many names and ideas, but he usually knows where he wants to go. We will see.
Her track record is very slim given her time elevated to the positions she’s held and experience in those.
As I said above - we have to trust him and his team. They have a very clear picture of what they want in a Judge and clearly she made the list.
[If she was a hard nose conservative...they would have voted against her.]

At least one vulnerable Democrat who voted against Thomas went down to defeat. Being a politician means always being on a razor’s edge. For Democrats, blacks and Hispanics are a key part of their electorate. For a Democrat pol, voting against a judge who fits squarely in one of his key demographic segments is a very risky thing to do. Voters might not pull the lever for the other guy, but they can leave the line item blank.
In the tweet: “
Source: “How do Democrats in the Senate vote against a Latina?”
LOL. They are far more vicious to minority conservatives than they are to white conservatives. Justice Thomas, Herman Cain, eg.
Trump hasn’t found put a reliable conservative on the USSC yet and pandering with a young Hispanic female judge without a particularly good record, who was appointed by Jeb and who got so much love from Dems in the Senate is just not promising at all.
You’ve got a lot of RINO/uniparty suckups working for the GOP in the Senate and the Dems play hardball to their badminton. Pay attention to what the Dems do with candidates, not what your pals “think”.
I haven’t noticed any black conservative judges at this level—and would be beyond shocked if there were any that Trump hadn’t already put them on his short list.

The only names I have heard being considered by
@realDonaldTrump
as the next #SCOTUS justice are Judges Amy Coney Barrett, Allison Eid, Barbara Lagoa, Joan Larsen and Allison Jones Rushing. All have been through
@SenateJudiciary
recently, all are originalists, all very qualified.
NOT true..according to 3 sources at NBC News, Amy Coney Barrett is most likely the pick
More evidence here that Lagos held up the party line -
Lagoa has served on the Florida Supreme Court for approximately eight months, before which she was a judge on the Court of Appeal of Florida for thirteen years. On both courts, Lagoa has developed a conservative jurisprudence. Her appointment to the Florida Supreme Court in 2019, alongside that of Judges Carlos Muniz and Robert Luck, flipped the court from a liberal majority to a conservative one. This new conservative majority reversed several decisions made by the previous majority, with the only holdover majority judge, Judge Jorge Labarga, in dissent.[5]
For example, in one case, Lagoa joined 6-1 majorities in reversing two 4-3 Florida Supreme Court decisions: one that upheld Orange County election code that allowed officials to be elected in nonpartisan elections; and one that handled attorney-fee disputes in a foreclosure battle.[6] In a different case, Lagoa joined the majority in reversing another 4-3 Florida Supreme Court ruling and allowing Florida legislative standards for expert witnesses to be entered, even as her fellow conservative Robert Luck excoriated the court for failing to follow proper procedures in reversing itself.[7]

It’s a list of 40+....besides a twitter page from an unamed sourse saying Lagoa is at the top doesn’t make it so. Though could be wishful thinking on their part.
Additionally Marc Caputo works for POLITICO and I do consider that source as a bastion of Leftists.
