Nominee is still considered a viable candidate for consideration of the full Senate even if he/she get an unfavorable ruling in the Judicial committee.

Problem is the process is long. Long questionnaire to be filled out and studied by members of the Senate, FBI checks, each Senator can demand a meeting with nominee, public hearings, executive calenders, etc...
