Now is the worst possible time for a 75% increase in Floridas minimum wage. Floridas unemployment rate was 11.3% in July, the latest monthly statistics provided by the Department of Economic Opportunity. According to a Florida State University survey released in June, one-in-six state businesses have closed for good due to COVID-19. The states restaurant, retail and tourism industries, which employ an overwhelming number of entry-level workers and operate on razor-thin profit margins, have been hit particularly hard by COVID-19 as people stay home and have less disposable income.
Everyone wants to help 'entry-level' employees, but there are better alternatives than the proposed constitutional $15 an hour wage floor. Floridas Amendment 2 would exacerbate economic pain for employers and employees alike.
A survey of Florida businesses by the Employment Policies Institute finds that half of the respondents would reduce their employees' hours to contend with the costs associated with a $15 entry-level wage. One-third would automate jobs. A new analysis by economists David Macpherson and William Even estimates that, if passed, Amendment 2 would cost the state 158,000 jobs.
In other words, a $15 entry-level wage slashes the first rung off the career ladder, which less-skilled employees quickly climb as they learn on-the-job skills such as customer service and tracking inventory. Most entry-level workers earn a wage increase within their first few months on the job. Ive witnessed this career learning curve innumerable times first-hand as the CEO of Sergios Restaurants in South Florida.

“explore better minimum wage alternatives ...”
...huh? 0 would be good.
A website called Facesof15.com has aggregated countless real-world victims of the $15 wage floor.
The article explains alternatives.
$10.00 would be good and get this off the political table. $15.00 is too high too fast.
There is one argument in favor of the higher minimum wage: it would adversely impact illegal immigrants.
Stagnant wages hurt the economy in the long run and causes societal upheaval.
Its going to pass. Yes frustrating but Ive noticed that these amendments pass pretty healthily in Florida. Heck the voters even voted a 250 dollar increase in property taxes for security of the schools. I voted no and so did 34 percent of the voters. These stupid amendments usually pass with over 60 percent of the vote. In 2018, we had 14 amendments. I think they all passed.
Well its for 2026.
I vote no on all referendums. The legislature can pass these laws if they are any good. I dont want them to be in the constitution.
Let the free market decide. Vote no on amendment 2.
Yes. We even passed a constitutional amendment specifying the size of chicken coops for poultry raised for eating. We have never met an amendment in Florida we didnt love
Every time the wording on the ballot is so convoluted that you have to almost be a lawyer to decipher the twisted wording.
