In scathing remarks criticizing his own staff, Attorney General William Barr said Wednesday that the Justice Department has recently acted "more like a trade association for federal prosecutors than the administrator of a fair system of justice" and equated some prosecutors to preschoolers and "headhunters."

It’s nearly impossible for political appointees to dismiss civil service employees. That’s why so many members of Democrat administrations roll over into the federal bureaucracy right before a Republican gets sworn into office.
All the better to continue the resistance.

I’d love to see the “nearly impossible” become the “quite likely” in Trump’s 2nd term. He needs to find a way. Create some kind of task force even to purge these people. Play dirty if he has to do so, but do it.
He also needs to have some sort of endorsable successor in the wings. The movement/party has to be bigger than one personality.
Thanks for posting a link to the text of the speech. Reading through it, it is fairly clear that what he was really speaking about here was the practice of attempting to turn policy differences into criminal acts, by being ‘creative’ in one’s interpretation of the law.
Yes. This is an issue, and a real one. It is very dangerous an destructive when the State can take vague and poorly written legislation, and turn them into weapons of political retaliation. One of the strengths of a Republic is that one can participate in the electoral process, and not have to worry about your opponent coming back after winning to attack you with the full power of the State to put you in your place, and eliminate you as future competition.
However, what this is going to be interpreted as, by the hyper-partisan culture that now inhabits all levels of government is that actual crimes committed by the previous administration are going to be brushed off as mere partisanship, and thus off the table.
Any excuse not to move forward will be an excuse.
And you can be damned sure that if the Democrat party seizes power, that it will be open season to punish any political opposition they perceive.
In other words, protect the swamp.
Trey Gowdy, along with the other 39 GOP House members who quit the House, which allowed the democrats to take the House are despicable and corrupt. They knew the House would flip with that many republicans leaving. And I don’t doubt one bit that each one has something to hide that would eventually come out, had they stuck around, but their main motivation was to flip the House. Congressmen don’t just up and leave a lucrative job like that.
Have you ever tried to fire a government union employee? It’s not that easy. You need 3 documented acts of malfeasance in a 6 month period, an action plan for employee correction, an opportunity for the employee to correct, documentation the employee did not correct, and even then you will spend years defending the firing in court (at great expense). More than likely the employee will be granted a settlement. Yes there are instances of egregious behavior that require immediate dismissal, but those are few and far between and you can count on it being fought in court.
It might be impossible to fire them. But its not impossible to assign them a specific task. Its not impossible to tell them the case they are working on is dropped. You may note able to fire them, but you can supervise the living hell out of them.
Put it in their permanent record that they engaged in partisan activities. Then fire them for cause.
All they need is the Republican Senate to approve replacements. I guess that would be a problem since Mitch is very careful to only approve swampers. And funny when Bill Clinton fired all 93 US attorney, it wasnt a problem some how. Obama got the fire in the US attorneys IGs or military generals he please. Again, no problem.
I’ve worked with these types.
They are useless when they leave govt. and get into private industry too- they think talking behind everyone’s back and scheming to get ahead is what you do all day at work.
Even if it was illegal to fire them, it would be worth paying any fines if it got them out of the office. Everyday the aren’t able to wield federal powers means another day for non-partisan prosecutors to drop cases and undo Obama level corruptness. An hour, a day, or a year delay means any shenanigans those prosecutors were secretly up to might come completely undone.
“it is indeed pretty much impossible to fire a Federal employee.”
The phrase I’ve heard regarding this is that “they own their jobs”. Not a joke.
The ONLY WAY to save this country is to transfer entire departments are government across the country if these JOB OWNERS dont wish to transfer they can quit!!! We NEED to divide and conquer!!
Absolutely correct.
How about assigning them overseas, then, shredding their passport and personnel records? Askin for a friend...
It is a joke...a pathetic joke on taxpayers justice and on our Republic.
