Andrew Gillum would have battled depression and alcohol even if he HAD won the Florida governorship.

Not only a crippled economy in Florida, it would be under the direction of a morose drunk.

Yup. In the era of social media and the internet, Tallahassee's combination of state government, a gossipy lobbying corps, and the GOP legislature would have shredded the compromised and absurdly flawed Gillum. He would have ended up wrecked personally and forced from office, perhaps also imprisoned or even dead by suicide.

As it is, Gillum has no political future in elective office. Even if considered as a Democratic federal appointee he would fail the FBI background check and the test of basic good political sense. Look for Gillum to float around the Democratic Party and Leftist political circuit in vague roles, perhaps with a fat book deal to boot. Gillum will have a long purgatory as a failure with a contrived story of redemption that he has to try to live up to. Human nature being what it is, he seems likely to mess even that up.
