Russian jets identified in Trump campaign ad calling for support for the troops

A recent digital ad for President Trump’s reelection campaign calling for the public to “support our troops” reportedly used a stock image of Russian-made fighter jets and weapons, Politico reported Monday, citing experts who identified the image.

“That’s definitely a MiG-29,” Pierre Sprey, who helped design both the F-16 and A-10 planes for the U.S. Air Force, told Politico regarding the photo in the ad. “I’m glad to see it’s supporting our troops.”

Ruslan Pukhov of the Centre for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies in Moscow also confirmed to Politico that the planes are Russian MiG-29s and said the soldier on the far right carries an AK-74 assault rifle.

The digital ad was made by the Trump Make America Great Again Committee and ran from Sept. 8 to Sept. 12. It features the silhouette of soldiers standing beneath the jets.

In identifying the jets to Politico, Sprey noted the angle of the aircraft’s tail and the spacing of the engines. Russia’s MiG-29 was developed during the Cold War specifically to counter American F-15s and F-16s, and the U.S. obtained a few to play the adversary in war games, Politico noted.

The one in the "Support our Troops" ad is a MIG-29.

The ones in the video linked to The Hill article are a MIG-21 at the start and F/A-18's later. I guess they just were looking to put some kind of fighters in their article.

Whoever put the MIG in the Trump campaign ad is an idiot. You'd think someone would scrub these things before they just started pulling random pictures of jets off the internet.

Maybe. But I see four hardpoints on each wing of your Mig-35 but only three on what folks are calling the Mig-29 in the ad.

Germany inherited some MiG-29’s from the former GDR upon unification. I believe Poland has some too. So there are or were MiG-29’s in NATO and the USAF used to train against them. Probably if you go out to some of the desert training ranges you’d see one or 2 sporting US markings.

The first plane was an ancient MiG-21. The ad ran for 4 days, so my guess is that it was spotted & yanked by the campaign and the Hill is just getting around to writing about it. Pierre Sprey was a contributor to the F-16/A-10 programs but since that time has been a professional crank. You want a good quote to use against Pentagon spending of a particular weapons program? Go look up Pierre’s phone number on your rolodex.

The ad looks like it was pulled from a video game rather than actual film of an aircraft. Maybe this was a short-cut by some computer graphics whiz working on a tight deadline who didn’t have the ability to make a format change?

The F-18, F-22, and F-35 have their vertical stabilizers canted at far greater angles than the one in that pic. The F-14 is the only one that has a very slight angle like that.

“I mean couldn’t the intern at least Google *U.S. Fighter Jet*??”

Yeah, that might be exactly what they did. Look what you get with “white U.S. inventors”.

...the AD COMPANY is to blame -- not TRUMP... there's a difference... unlike this ad, which shows Biden is a serial molester!

I think that 99.99999% of the people who see the ad, myself included, will only see jets. No thought being given as to what kind

Is the soldier on the right carrying a Russian weapon? I’m no gun expert but it looks like it has a separate gas tube reminiscent of an AK-47.

Doesn’t matter what model MIG it is, it is incontrovertible proof that Trump is Putin’s puppet. /s

Careless low paid campaign workers led by negligent bosses who did not insist that ALL IMAGES used in any part of the campaign be checked and double checked for accurate representation.

And the rifle on the far left looks like an M-16 ................ The right one does look like a K variant, then again it could be a Special OPs team. Lets face it, as a PR company employee, they probably never went beyond COD, and only served with Capt Price.
