The new coronavirus can infect brain cells, study finds
LiveScience ^

The coronavirus that causes COVID-19 can sometimes hijack brain cells, using the cells' internal machinery to copy itself, according to a new study.

The research, posted Sept. 8 to the preprint database bioRxiv, has not yet been published in a peer-reviewed journal, but it provides evidence that SARS-CoV-2 can directly infect brain cells called neurons. Although the coronavirus has been linked to various forms of brain damage, from deadly inflammation to brain diseases known as encephalopathies, all of which can cause confusion, brain fog and delirium, there was little evidence of the virus itself invading brain tissue until now.

"We are actively looking at more patient tissues to be able to find how frequently such brain infections occur ... and what symptoms correlate with infection of which areas of the brain," senior author Akiko Iwasaki, an immunologist at Yale University, told Live Science in an email. In addition, scientists must still figure out how the virus enters the brain in the first place, and whether it can be kept out of the brain, the authors noted in their report.

Given the amount of stupidity in this country (how in the heck is Biden even close to Trump??!!!), I would say the virus is rampant in the populace.

Isn't that how ALL viruses work? Hijacking other cells and using them to reproduce?

All the more reason to focus on prevention, which President Trump has been working on for months now.

Thank you President Trump for having the foresight to use the resources of the Federal government to keep Americans safe! Just need to finish up the work and then get this economy moving again!

A covid virus that attacks neurons and other brain tissue? Hmm. Sounds a lot like the “RNA vaccine” everyone’s rushing to concoct. Two separate trials were halted due to “neurological effects.”

I had a flu back in 2000 and it was not good. I was disoriented and my mood was off. Yeah flus can affect your brain. So what else is new?

It is. Typical sensationalism from the news media designed to drum up more fear. However, it IS concerning if this virus is able to reach brain cells and infect them. That might explain some of the sensory issues people have had among other lasting problems.

That said, cases are trending down and hopefully will continue doing so. We need to complete work on the vaccines and get people inoculated so this thing doesn’t have an opportunity to do any more damage than it is. That’s why President Trump has been so focused on the vaccine side of things. Treatments are great and all viable treatment options should be on the table for doctors to use to help those already suffering, but an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I was going to say there are probably lots of viruses that *could* infect your brain under the proper circumstances.

False.

The Oxford vaccine candidate isn’t even on an mRNA platform. It’s a traditional vaccine. And the trial was halted once because one study participant had a previously undiagnosed case of Multiple Sclerosis unrelated to the vaccine candidate and another reportedly developed different symptoms which were also apparently not caused by the vaccine candidate.

In both cases, the entire global trials of the Oxford vaccine candidate were halted because 1 person out of 50,000+ across the world showed unexpected symptoms. In both cases, they halted the whole program just to make sure it wasn’t the vaccine candidate causing it. For one person.

Sounds like some pretty cautious, thorough testing to me!

Joe must have Covid then. Every single democrat, ”peaceful protester”, riotor, arsonist, pedophile, cop killer, elected officials who shut down small businesses and churches, mask Nazis, gun grabbers, people who have their hair blown not knowing “ the rules” and trannys have brain problems. What else could be the reason except covid?

Are they going to restart? Or does “halted” mean forever?

There’s so much info, misinfo and disinfo out there right now about any and all vaccines that I’m having trouble keeping things straight.

It is what they say AIDS does. To me, I don’t know if I can believe that virus even cause diseases or is a virus just the “poison” “pus” or “excrement” of a cell fighting off toxins or bacteria infections?

The ability to just come up with entirely new ways that a virus can act amazes me.

They already restarted over the weekend. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-54132066

“the studies could now resume following the recommendations of an independent safety review committee and the UK regulator, the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency.”

When you have 50,000 volunteers from around the world participating in a study, some are going to have other medical things happen that are unrelated to the study. It’s just too many people to avoid. But you want a lot of people in your study so you can ensure you don’t have some bad side effect that hurts 1/10,000 people. That’s why clinical trials start with a small number in phase 1 (e.g. 100), move on to a larger group (e.g. 1,000), and then fan out to a much larger audience (e.g. 30,000) for phase 3.

This was a short pause that probably cost them a week or two. But it’s normal and it’s good that they do it that way. If there’s any possibility that there’s a major side effect of any drug or vaccine, that needs to be investigated fully. That much is owed to everyone who volunteers for these sorts of studies.

Don’t worry. Only 50+ more days and no new tales will need to be spun about the horrors of Covid. Running out the clock with a new scary story every day.
