Much simpler to abolish the FBI. But no one in Congress has any cohones. They are all owned by the powers that be.
Even if you get rid of it, something has to replace at least most of its functions. Those managing such an agency would have the exact same temptations as the most recent batch, and I don’t hold out much hope that they’ll be any better.
No, the problem isn’t the particular agencies, bureaus or departments - it’s with the entire government. Government as a whole has gotten too big and too powerful. There’s simply too much money and power flowing out of DC for it not to attract literally tens of billions per year in influence-peddling of one kind or another. This is the core of corruption - eliminate the government controlling $4 trillion/year, dial it back to 1/5 of that or less, and you will automatically have far less corruption, because it won’t pay as much.
Of course, I do think that there needs to be a government reform bill put in the hopper in one House or another, and made to pass in a form that metes out positively draconian penalties for being a corrupt government official - and I’d put harsher penalties on abuse of power than upon merely lining one’s pockets.
I’m not holding my breath waiting for either an 80% reduction of the size of government or a draconian reform bill, but that doesn’t make both of those things absolutely necessary to restore our Republic.
