The Weather Underground was a recognized subversive organization, with Soviet trained community organizers and funding, well organized and dangerous. They dynamited government building and killed police officers, orchestrated riots, etc. They openly pursued the violent overthrow of the government. Ditto the SDS. The FBI successfully infiltrated the organization and caused their downfall over a period of time.

The principal differences between the riots of the 1960s and 70s and those in our day are that the police are standing down in the blue cities and states and the cultural subversion and moral rot have gone far deeper. Additionally, instead of funding coming from foundations set up by the Robber Barons and taken over by their liberal descendants or from the KGB, the funds now come from the tech giants and Soros and China.
