There is a contagion in our land. It's on the left and the right. We are falling into ideology.

I totally reject the notion that conservatism is mere ideology. Conservatism is not a manufactured dogma like Marxism or so called Progressivism. Conservatism is the result of adopting principles that proved to be correct over a long period of time. Principles were adopted because they were moral and they worked. Or sometimes, conservative principles were developed when people observed that certain behavior resulted in injustice or disaster.

One of my favorite sayings, I think, captures the essence of conservatism:

Never tear down a fence until you know why it was put up in the first place.
