This BS will be a daily occurrence in the media/academia world until November 3rd. Desperately hoping just one Fake News story will stick and doom President Trump. It will not.

Total unadulterated garbage. Reminds me of the widely cited Lancet “study” which turned out to be totally made up from thin air.

yet, not a single case has been attributed to the riots. Maybe the bikers should have rioted, looted, vandalized, and burned down the town, then they would have been OK.

"Essentially, the researchers assumed that new spikes in cases in areas where people went post-rally must have been caused by those rally attendees, despite there being no particular evidence that this was the case. The paper, which has not been peer-reviewed, failed to account for simultaneous happenings—like schools in South Dakota reopening, among other things—that could have contributed to coronavirus spread in some of the studied areas."

"The researchers also assumed a $46,000 price tag for each person infected to calculate the $12.2 billion public health cost of the event—but this figure would only make sense if every person had a severe case requiring hospitalization."

No, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Didn't Spawn 250,000 Coronavirus Cases

Funny how rioters don’t cause outbreaks.

The increase in new cases is the inevitable result of people getting back to normal life. The issue has never been about new cases it is only about the ability of the health care system to cope with the most at risk populations that require hospitalization.

There has only been one death reported by an attendee and the counties that saw increases have all continued to declined without proportional increases in mortality.

The organization that funded this study is affiliated with far left climate change and economic inequality organizations in Germany and the economic impact of this seems to be highly inflated. If this was credible there would be many more US health agencies citing it including the CDC.

Nothing about any protest/riot causing an outbreak though.

A day ago I read Sturgis was connected to 200 cases and one death of a sixty year old with underlying conditions. I tend to believe that.

Even if 100% accurate, so what? Does any one remember the quaint notion of slowing the spread so as not to overwhelm the healthcare system?

So free people made free decisions and maybe a few will get so sick they will die is that a crisis?

Health care costs? I’m sure most bikers have health insurance that they pay for. They aren’t usually a bunch of leeches.

I smells multiple PHDs at work here, “Piled High & Deep”, angling for grant monies! Rally was last month so should this ‘link’ show as a spike?

Somebody is pulling numbers out of a hat. I read the actual study (http://ftp.iza.org/dp13670.pdf). Nowhere in that study does it say 250,000 were infected. In the paper it says the event could *draw* 250,000 people based on references to other published articles.

Better headline:

“Scientists claim, without any evidence, that the Sturgis motorcycle rally, which drew more than 400,000 people in South Dakota in August linked to more than 250,000 Coronavirus cases”

I bet real scientists doing actual science were involved with this study. I bet they didn’t have any idea where it would all end up when they were done. I bet we all have to believe them because they went to college and everything.
