In reality, in human nature, there is no such thing as a "collective." There are only individuals, who may or may not congregate with other individuals, as a matter of conscientious free act. Our would-be political masters have no power or authority to commandeer "sacrifice" from free individuals. That would be tantamount to slavery.
A "nation" is not the same thing as a "collective." A "collective" has no soul; but a nation does.
