heavy smoke is an issue with that , they are downwind of the fire

Evacuating people from a fire is problematic if there’s no direct threat to life; people have a big habit of wanting to bring everything with them (so it doesn’t get destroyed by the fire.)

Plus, rationally, in many conditions you can drive through a fire (not really recommended.) Which means that likely fire apparatus is already on scene to offer support to the people trapped. And likely evacuate a couple people in sheriff’s vehicles who have breathing issues.

Oh yeah, and COVID, which always makes things so much less complicated...

they don't make Solar or wind powered helicopters that can carry a person yet and funding for real helicopters was spent on P.E.R.S. [/sarc]
