Vietnam was a wet dream of the "conservative" progressives ... now known as neocons ... and of course was started by two RATS, JFK and especially one of our most corrupt Presidents, LBJ.

The "Progressive" rationale for the Vietnam War (and others) was to promote American "Values" BY FORCE, and make a bundle in the process.

Even the so-called "Domino Theory" proved bogus; which was one of the few "Logical" explanations for what we were doing there.

The Iraq War was another neocon (i.e., progressive) war, easily backed by progressives of both the left and the right.

Both these wars were disasters for America.

In my opinion, if Trump said so, he was right.

Back then I believe they were known as Scoop Jackson Democrats...socially liberal but fiscally conservative. And big proponents of national defense.

Every VN vet and their families that I have ever known (starting in 1961, when a friend’s husband was drafted & I had no idea what Vietnam was about) has said it was a sucker’s war.
