Then why hasn’t Trump done that? To try to win an election??
There are a few possibilities. He would be right to say that it’s the primary responsibility of local and state authorities. That’s true. Democrat mayors and governors are letting their cities and states collapse.
He would also be right to point out that the feds do have some constitutional limitations, though that argument is weaker. Antifa and BLM have funding and organization. Jabba the Barr could undo their money in no time. End the money, end the riots. It would also be really easy for the feds to get BLM leaders to start saying a bunch of antisemitic stuff (again), which would also cause the money to dry up (again).
The President might be playing some politics while letting his opponents wreck themselves. That would be pretty cynical, but that’s the way things are.
I think the President is probably a little surprised at just how far the Democrats are willing to go. It’s like a game of chicken that went too far. It isn’t 1968 anymore. Democrat mayors don’t enforce the law. It’s shocking.
