Anyone else notice how, during his last two speeches (at the RNC and in NH last night), Trump went out of his way to say that his travel bans and lockdowns saved hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of American lives?

I don’t think he believes that for a second. But by saying it, he gives the left two equally bad choices:

If they accuse him of making absurd claims to pat himself on the back, then they undermine their own insistence that COVID is absolutely deadly, and implicitly admit that the lockdowns and other draconian measures that they’ve been subjecting their states and cities to for months, were completely unjustified. If they don’t challenge it, they allow Trump to take credit for saving all of those lives.

I don’t think the left likes either of those options.
