Attorneys for Kenosha gunman Kyle Rittenhouse argued Friday he acted in self-defense and predicted the Illinois teen will be acquitted of the murder charges he faces in Wisconsin.
Lawyers representing Mr. Rittenhouse in this week’s double homicide said in a lengthy statement their client “had no choice but to fire” when Tuesday’s deadly shooting took place.
“He will become a symbol of the heroic individual American who at certain times in history must say: ‘Don’t Tread On Me’,” defense lawyer John M. Pierce added later on Twitter.
Mr. Rittenhouse, 17, has been charged as an adult by Wisconsin prosecutors with five felony charges and a misdemeanor related to the shooting, which killed two people and injured another.
Video recorded by witnesses captured Mr. Rittenhouse being chased by a group of people before gunshots erupted. He then fled while being pursued, tripped and more shots erupted.
Prosecutors have charged Mr. Rittenhouse with killing Anthony Huber, 26, and Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, with an AR-15 style rifle. Gaige Grosskreutz, 26, was also shot and survived.
Mr. Rittenhouse was arrested Wednesday in his home state and charged in a complaint unsealed the next day with counts including first degree intentional and reckless homicide, among others.
“He did nothing wrong,” Mr. Pierce said in a statement. “He defended himself, which is a fundamental right of all Americans given by God and protected by law.”
The incident occurred amid unrest sparked by Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old Black man, being shot from behind and paralyzed by a member of the Kenosha Police Department on Sunday.

My son told me that he heard that Rosenbaum got shot in the back before Kyle killed him.
That gunshot that happened before Kyle’s managed to hit him in the lung I believe.

This kid is turning into a hero to a lot of people. He already has a lot of passionate defenders and many, many people will be watching that he gets a fair shake. All o this is the opposite of that The-Powers-That-Be want.
Should not the prosecutors review the facts before pressing charges? Or do they believe that accusations are all they need?
Are the prosecutors communists?
One thing that I wondered about was the sheriff was convicting him before he even charged him by saying he shouldn’t have been there, but where the hell was he (the sheriff) It took minutes before they even showed up, so if they had done their jobs, it would not have been necessary.
This kid was set upon by white professional thugs and bully’s with criminal records. There is amble video evidence that these people mean to harm their victims. And often cause severe wounds and even death. It is also known that the skate boards they carry have been modified to be harmful weapons a kin to a long black jack. And many have other weapons hidden out of sight.
This kid is a hero. Doing the job that the police were not allowed to do. Keep the peace. Kenosha got quieter after the kid did his stuff. It reminds me a bit of the story Liberty Valance or even Shane.
I say move the case to New York where he can be out on bail in minutes.
I think the prosecutor(s) have let their alligator mouth overload their hummingbird ass by overcharging-1st degree intentional homicide doesn’t really fit what you see on the video...

The fact that there was a double homicide is undeniable. Rittenhouse is the alleged killer.
Yet, no charges filed for the felon in possession of a firearm.
The DA's complaint states that Rosenbaum was shot in the back, with the bullet passing through his lung and liver. But surprisingly there is no exit wound visible on Rosenbaum's torso in the video which shows him moments after the shooting.
It seems strange that a typical 5.56mm round at close range would not create a visible exit wound. Presumably more information will come out about what actually happened.
The video recordings of Rosenbaum's attack on Rittenhouse indicate multiple people were firing guns, not just Rittenhouse.
Yeah, there were a lot of gunshots.
