I understand your feeling about this, but if police don’t have to answer to the locally elected leader of government, who should they answer to. The problem really isn’t the police having to follow a mayor’s orders, but rather who the locals have elected to that office.

One participant in the mob that broke into the private, gated community (without charges, natch) won the democrat primary for the U.S. House of Representatives, which in that district is tantamount to having already won election. The prosecutor who not only didn’t charge the mob, but did charge a couple who stood guard outside their home, also won her primary.

Many of our fellow citizens apparently approve of the riots and lawlessness and are happily electing local and state leaders who share their views.
