Was watching something yesterday about Black MLB players being interviewed and they were ‘checking’ with this guy, teams were going to vote and be in solidarity etc.
I was in a restaurant owned by a Black friend of mine this noon and we were discussing the Phillies voting to cancel last nights game and I put the ‘blame’ on the Nationals also as they should have demanded a forfeit seeing as how they need every win they can get. (I don’t think a forfeit was available)
Anyway after he (jokingly) told me how I was ‘misreading’ the reason I told him that the ONLY people the MLB players should talk to is the Latino players and ask them ONE question:
Would you rather be here in this country where you are considered ‘2nd class citizens’ OR back in _______ playing.
WE know the answer even to those that have been here a while AND if the Whites and Blacks feel all that oppressed here in the land of ‘Milk & Honey’ just quit and am sure the hinterlands of the Dominican Republic etal will be able to fill the ranks with people who APPRECIATE the game and the opportunity to become MILLIONAIRES while playing a game they ‘love’.
Juan Soto’s family is in this country (OR were last year) and I can see that 21 yo telling his mother and father that it is/was demeaning to be playing in this unjust land and they were going back home.
Even Muhammad Ali said, “Thank God my granddaddy got on that boat.”
