Japs were making F1 cars in the 60s. Seikowas making professional dive watches as good as Swiss in the 60s. Made in Japan was a joke because of Western chauvinism. There is no comparison, in engineering prowess, between the Japanese and China.

Made in Japan was a joke because of Western chauvinism.
They were also selling a lot of cheap pot metal stuff because that's what we would import from them. It would take more than 15 years for the many Pacific War vetarans and their families to want to throw money their way.
Even in the '60s, Japanese lenses for cameras were known to be the best value, and at least on par with the European stuff.

pproblem being; that a lot of Japanese companies are having their manufacturing done in China—— for the same reasons US companies are. I bought a new high end Japanese brand sewing machine, the advice was simply, make sure you get one that’s made in Japan, if not in Japan then settle for Taiwan, but models made in China are crap.
