I don't think you can address the nation's declining fertility without mentioning the complicating factor of obesity. Men who are overweight or obese have lower sperm counts than normal weight men, which is why women are wired to prefer physically fit males. Obesity is also linked to polycystic ovarian syndrome in females.

When 75% of American men and 66% of American women are overweight or obese, that's bound to affect fertility rates.

Yeah, unless they changed the charts since the last time I looked, if you have any decent level of muscle mass at all, then your BMI would require you to have almost zero bodyfat to be in the normal or below category. I am in no way an apologist for the state that most American’s find themselves in... frankly I am disgusted by it when I allow myself to pay attention to people, but the standards to be below obese get a little whack

Body condition/health is certainly a factor in partner selection-hardwired in the subconscious part of the human brain. No matter your age, both male and female want a fit, healthy partner-if they are just interested in having an ATM, or maybe an enabler for bad habits, then that is a whole different thing...
