NBA teams are boycotting their playoff games to protest the police shooting of 29-year-old Jacob Blake, who is black. Black Lives Matter protests have surged across the US once more this week in response to Kenosha, Wisconsin, police paralyzing Blake by shooting him in the back seven times on Sunday.
The boycotts began with the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday in their game with Orlando Magic.
"Some things are bigger than basketball. The stand taken today by the players and org shows that we're fed up," Bucks Senior Vice President Alex Lasry, who is the son of Bucks owner Marc Lasry, tweeted after news of the boycott began to spread. "Enough is enough. Change needs to happen. I'm incredibly proud of our guys and we stand 100% behind our players ready to assist and bring about real change."
The Bucks boycott was followed by tweets from several high-profile NBA stars, with the Los Angeles Lakers' LeBron James, Denver Nuggets' Jamaal Murray and Utah Jazz's Donovan Mitchell demanding change and justice.
The Bucks players are staying in the locker room trying to reach Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul, reports The Athletic and Stadium's Shams Charania. Magic responded saying it stands with the Bucks and with all NBA players and the league "in condemning bigotry, racial injustice and the unwarranted use of violence by police against people of color."

A classic!
Nice to see old “Buffalo Butt”.
It seems BLM has made it to Japan....Naomi Osaka, a tennis superstar has withdrawn in protest going into the semi-finals of the Western Southern Open. She is Japanese/Haitian descent and plays as Japanese. Also note she considers tennis as a white sport forgetting that Serena Williams, has dominated womens tennis for twenty years, and there are many other black players, both men and women.
Here is an excerpt from her press statement:
I dont expect anything drastic to happen with me not playing, Osaka wrote. But if I can get a conversation started in a majority white sport I consider that a step in the right direction. Watching the continued genocide of Black people at the hand of the police is honestly making me sick to my stomach. Im exhausted of having a new hashtag pop up every few days and Im extremely tired of having this same conversation over and over again. When will it ever be enough?
RE: Watching the continued genocide of Black people at the hand of the police is honestly making me sick to my stomach.
This idea in her head came from the lies fed to her by our mainstream media. What genocide is she talking about? The closest thing to mass killing in this country is the endless phenomenon of black on black killings. Yet, she is implying that it’s the police who are doing it! Just a sad, crooked way to think.
No Loss. Now end the remaining season.
She, and all Blacks, should go to Africa.
Enjoy your Black paradise.
Nobody was watching anyway.
Why doesn’t all professional sports shut down? Why just for one day? Why not until all racism, hate and bad cops are eliminated? This would be a serious statement not just weak virtue signaling. The players and teams are all rich and can afford the loss of income.
So true. But think of this, Osaka is Japanese/Haitian, right? She is claiming she is a black woman which means her ethnicity comes from Haiti, not America or Japan. The horrific treatment of human beings in Haiti is well-documented, and rates as true genocide, yet she is accusing us of genocide.
