Wonderful night.
I thought I would get bored - but excellent speeches and short films.
Highlights of the night.
When the kid put on the MAGA hat and the pro-life speech - awesome!
Wonderful night? They have this ridiculously pandering ‘naturalization’ ceremony. They offer up prayers for the guy in Kenosha who, by the way, was a felon known for sexual assault. And not a mention one of Cannon Hinnant. They’ll offer up prayers for criminals legitimately shot by police but no mention of a little boy blown away in his front yard.
The secretary of state was arguably off duty (Does he actually turn in a time sheet? I don’t knpw). The claim that a secretary pf state has never made a campaign speech didn’t sound right to me. Maybe in the Hatch Act era it is true, but ever?
Madison, Monroe, and Quincy Adams were sitting secretaries of state who ran for (and won) the presidency.
I didn’t have a chance to check all of them (or even just the ones that were sitting in a Presidential election year), but I did come across this on William Seward:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_H._Seward#1868_election,_retirement_and_death
where Seward made a speech endorsing Grant.
Now the naturalization ceremony was iffy. That was unquestionably an official act. Trump should have conducted it himself.
