You're right, but unfortunately this young man is in for a long haul through the criminal justice system.

Even if found “not guilty” of 1st degree murder, he will dole out at least $20k in defense.

Sucks. If this were Texas, likely he'd not have been charged...at all, but this is Wisconsin/Minnesota area.
